Kathy Carr has been in the Heber Valley with her family for nearly 40 years. As an active member of the community, she has served in many capacities. She is a graduate of Brigham Young University with a degree in child psychology and family studies. She also studied at Wellesley College in Massachusetts.
Her work began with creating the first after-school programs in the state, including those in Wasatch County. She, along with others, helped create the State Office of Child Care and became an advocate at both the state and national levels for education. As a grant writer, she has created many programs for public schools and helped other educators secure funding for their programs. She has been recognized nationally with several awards for her advocacy for women and children, and continues to do so.
Education is an important focus, as she has helped with evaluations of public and private schools and military bases across the country and overseas. She consulted with private communities as they developed community-based activities and helped launch extended STEAM programs for private communities.
As a teacher, she has trained and created workshops for educators who work with students in early childhood and elementary education, presenting around the country. She has served as Director of programs for both public and private entities before retiring after a 30-year career in education.
She has served on national, state, and local boards and believes strong communities are built through access to quality educational opportunities for all ages.
Kathy loves the vision and mission of the Wasatch Community Foundation and works closely in the community with many educational partners while also serving on the executive board.
