Empowering Women Through Education
Wasatch Community Foundation’s Women Rising Project
The Wasatch Community Foundation’s Women Rising Project was established in 2024 to address the growing need for financial assistance and resources for women pursuing higher education. Recognizing this critical need, two generous community members provided the initial seed funding to launch Women Rising—a program dedicated to supporting and inspiring women on their educational journey. The name “Women Rising” reflects the program’s mission to uplift women, helping them achieve their aspirations through education, personal development, and meaningful connections.
Our valued partners include the Wasatch County Health Department and the Wasatch County Library, both of which play a crucial role in expanding the resources available to women in our community.
Workshops That Inspire and Educate
Women Rising hosts quarterly workshops at the Wasatch County Library, designed to empower women with knowledge, skills, and community connections. These intimate gatherings foster meaningful discussions and provide valuable resources on topics such as:
- Opportunities to serve in the community
- Understanding the Women Rising scholarship application process
- Building resilience in changing times
- Leadership and personal development
- Navigating life’s transitions with confidence
Attendees have expressed deep appreciation for the encouragement and support they receive. The workshops create a welcoming space where women can connect, share experiences, and grow together.
Scholarships for Women’s Education
A cornerstone of Women Rising is the Jumpstart Scholarship, designed to help women start or complete a college degree. The application process considers financial need, field of study, and personal life goals, with special priority given to women pursuing careers in healthcare and education—key fields that strengthen our local community.
Yuri Jensen, a recent scholarship recipient, received tuition support to jumpstart her bachelor’s degree. She is currently majoring in Family Science with a minor in Business Management at Utah Valley University while working at Timpanogos Middle School in the Wasatch County School District.
“The Women Rising scholarship helped cover part of my previous semester, which made a real difference for me. Even though it covered 9 credits, that support gave me the extra push to stay focused on my studies and continue working toward my Family Science degree. I am truly grateful.”
The scholarship program is overseen by Women Rising Chair Kathy Carr, along with Lindsay Jepperson and Jen Roskelley. As funding grows, so will our ability to support more women in Wasatch County.
Additional Support for Women’s Success
Beyond scholarships, Women Rising provides guidance on federal funding applications and educates women on additional resources they may qualify for. This holistic approach ensures women have access to the tools they need to succeed academically and professionally.
Upcoming Workshops
Women from all over the valley have participated in our inspiring workshops, which provide education, motivation, and community support. These events feature local women who share their experiences and insights to encourage others in their journey of “rising.”
Kristin, who attended the last workshop, shared her thoughts:
“I loved this event. Lindsay was so inspiring. I loved her story and the books she introduced along the way. It was great to take time to introduce ourselves and make new connections. For 2025, I’m focusing on social goals to create more meaningful relationships. My word for the year is ‘Intentional,’ and I was thrilled to win a book with that word in the title! We need more events that encourage us to connect and support each other.”
Upcoming sessions include:
- April: “Bloom Where You Are Planted” – A discussion on personal growth and making the most of life’s circumstances.
- Summer: “The Nature of You” – Exploring identity, self-care, and personal fulfillment.
Support the Women Rising Project
Women Rising aims to raise $50,000 by 2026 to expand scholarship opportunities, workshops, and resources for local women. Community support is vital to the success of this initiative. Every donation helps fund scholarships, develop educational programs, and provide much-needed assistance to women striving to improve their lives through education.
We invite all women in the community to join us—whether by attending a workshop, applying for a scholarship, or donating to this impactful cause. Together, we can uplift and empower the women of Wasatch County, helping them achieve their educational and personal aspirations.
For more information about the Women Rising Project or to contribute, visit the Wasatch Community Foundation’s website or attend one of our upcoming events at the Wasatch County Library.
